Therapy space designed for people.

The nature of all work has been impacted by the unprecedented events we’ve seen in the last few years.

The delivery of mental health services has allowed therapists to connect with clients in new ways. Telehealth has expanded the availability of therapy and other services to many who may not be able to attend in person.

It is easy to lean into online therapy for the convenience. I will continue to offer online sessions for my clients, but I also want to stay focused on providing a face-to-face option allowing for the benefit of interacting in person. I appreciate that most of my teen clients prefer meeting in person. We have used online sessions out of necessity, but most of my clients appreciate the benefits that attending in person affords them.

About eight years ago I attended a training that covered the basics of telehealth before there was a huge demand for on-line therapy. I thought I would get ahead of the curve to be ready for the demand that was sure to come. However, looking at telehealth full circle, even as demand is on the rise, it is important to stress the benefits of in person therapy as fully as the online options:

1.       In person therapy allows for a greater perception of feeling and emotion

2.       Working in person provides some clients a much-needed reinforcer of accomplishment

3.       Some clients report needing a break from screen time

4.       Teens need private space in therapy to express without concern for being overheard

5.       It is a sign of independence for teens to attend therapy in person
